Material Model Selection

Hyperelastic Models

Viscoplastic Models

Introduction

Selecting an appropriate material model can seem difficult since there are so many different material models to choose from.

The most appropriate material model for a given material depends on the scope of the project and how accurate the FE simulations need to be. A more accurate material model typically requires more experimental data for calibration and more computational time when running the FE analysis. A more advanced material model, however, can provide significantly more accurate results than a simple hyperelastic or metal plasticity model.

Commonly Used Material Models

Here is a short summary of commonly used material models for different material classes. The material models listed here should be considered as examples of models that can be used. A different set of material models may be better suited in specific applications.
